Track Manager Wanted
We are on the lookout for a Track Manager to take on the busiest harness racing track in the country. As well as watching the sunrise each morning (5am start) you get to work outside in the best (and worst) weather the Waikato has to offer.
The Cambridge Raceway is home to over 100 horses who use the track as their training base. We hold around 25 race meetings each season, including the biannual Harness Jewels and are the home track of Harness Racing in the Waikato-Bay of Plenty region.
You will have to have a reasonably thick skin as the role will involve management of both race tracks, along with the expectations of numerous Trainers who won't be shy in offering their opinions regarding the state of the track.
Unlike any other track in New Zealand (and possibly Australasia), you will be required to have the main track prepared for training until 10am on race days and then completely transformed into a world class race track only hours later.
The ability to predict the weather better than any weather app on the market would be an asset. You don't have to be a harness racing fanatic but a basic understanding of the racing industry and being able to operate machinery would be preferred.
The role will suit someone with an eagerness to learn and the ability to deal with 'constructive' criticism. You will be part of an enthusiastic team who work hard to maintain the Cambridge Raceway's top class reputation. Track management experience is not a key requirement and on-site training will be provided for the right candidate.
